Wage, Hour, & Overtime Law

The current national non-exempt minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. Bartenders and waitresses experience a slightly different set of rules concerning the minimum wage. According to the Strong-Tie Insurance CA workers comp, lack of overtime pay is the most abused form of workers compensation and often is the most penalized. People who work on gratuities can be given $2.83 per hour as long as their tip money combined with their $2.83 per hour totals at least $7.25 an hour. However, bartenders and waitresses don’t realize that their employer is obligated to pay them minimum wage per hour.
